Jordan Henderson accepts Al Ettifaq proposal for Liverpool exit in 2023

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is close to joining Saudi Arabian club Al Ettifaq, having accepted their contract proposal verbally. The two clubs have now reached an agreement over the fee as well, and the final confirmation is now imminent.

Fellow midfielder Fabinho could also follow him to Saudi Arabia, with the Brazilian also receiving a proposal to move to the Gulf State.

There was no chance for Liverpool to terminate his contract and let him leave for free.

The 33-year-old had two years remaining on his deal with Liverpool, and was among the most veteran players in the squad. He has been at Merseyside since 2011, having joined them from Sunderland. And now seems like the best time for him to move on and take up a new challenge.

Liverpool have signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to bolster their midfield, which could limit Jordan Henderson’s playing time during the coming season. As a result, a reunion with Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq seems to be the way to go for all parties.
