Varandas also reflected on Pereira’s development as a coach, noting his successful transition from a player to an assistant coach with the Under-23s and his rise through the ranks to manage the B team. “João has grown as a coach, and he has earned the trust of everyone at the Academy,” Varandas continued. “I have little doubt that João Pereira, in four or five years, will be at one of the most powerful clubs in Europe.”

Despite the high expectations that come with succeeding Ruben Amorim, Pereira is resolute in his belief that he will be able to build his own legacy at the club. “The biggest mistake I could make would be trying to imitate someone else,” Pereira explained. “Ruben developed a great relationship with everyone here, and I’m confident that my relationship will also evolve and solidify over time.”
