Bayern Munich signed Joao Cancelo from Manchester City on loan in one of the most shocking transfers of the January transfer window.
Hasan Salihamidzic, the sporting director of the club, has confirmed that there was no loan fees paid for the Portuguese full-back. And the main reason behind this was due to the network, as they have a very good relationship with Cancelo’s agent, Jorge Mendes.
Joao Cancelo deal involves no loan fees, confirms Salihamidzic
Joao Cancelo already has two assists for Bayern Munich in two games. He had a fallout with Pep Guardiola over game time, which ultimately led to his exit from the Sky Blues.
The deal for Cancelo involves a €70 million buy option which becomes valid in the summer. And considering the instant impact he has been able to provide, Bayern might just pay up and keep him on a permanent deal.
It isn’t very frequent that a player of such quality is signed without a hefty loan fee. And with the way things are panning out, it might be the best deal of the January transfer window.
With the boost provided by the Portugal international, the German side are now looking like a serious threat to PSG’s hopes of a debut Champions League title in their Round of 16 clash.
