Lionel Messi will forever remain a Barcelona legend, no matter what. He played for the Barcelona senior team for 17 years after coming through their youth ranks. He has won it all for Barcelona and was the flag bearer of the club. However, due to financial restrictions, Barcelona couldn’t renew the contract with Messi and he left as a free agent in 2021 and signed for PSG.

From the moment he left the Catalan club, the claims of bringing him back to Barcelona have been going on. The fans demand the return of Messi and the club officials also want the move to happen but that is not an easy task.

There were also rumours of Lionel Messi signing for MLS club Inter Miami after his PSG contract expires. But it has now been revealed that Messi has a verbal agreement with PSG to extend his contract, which is bad news for Barcelona fans who are hoping for their hero’s return.

Joan Laporta tells Barcelona fans not to get their expectations high for Lionel Messi’s return

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has now told the fans not to get their expectations high regarding the return of their prodigal son, Messi.

Laporta told Barcelona’s official media: “Yesterday we had a meeting with the media. We had conversations in a relaxed tone. It is obvious that I would like him to return one day. I would love to, but we can’t raise expectations.”

“He is a PSG player and has a contract with them. He has just won the World Cup. We are very happy for him. What I do not want is to generate expectations that is very difficult [to fulfil].”

“The levers were made to save the club because it was in a very complicated situation Now LaLiga has established limits to the levers. It would be possible to do one of these operations, but it wouldn’t be to sign a player.”

“For us, he is the best of all time. We have had him here and he has become a player here. I am convinced that he, in his heart, is a Barcelona fan and will always be linked to Barcelona. We would very much like him to come back, but we’ll see.”
