Reliance Jio has emerged as India’s 5G leader with average download speeds of 199.7 Mbps, outpacing Airtel‘s 187.2 Mbps and Vodafone Idea’s 138.1 Mbps, according to OpenSignal’s latest Mobile Network Experience Report covering September to November 2025. The comprehensive OpenSignal study revealed that Jio’s 5G speeds are 11 times faster than its 4G network, while Airtel’s 5G operates 7 times faster than 4G, and Vi’s 5G shows 6 times improvement over 4G. This performance gap highlights Jio’s superior infrastructure investment and network optimization.

Jio’s 5G availability stands at 68.1%, with customers spending 67.3% of their time on the 5G network—significantly higher than Airtel’s 28% despite similar availability at 66.6%. This indicates that Jio users actively utilize 5G connectivity rather than falling back to 4G.

The report attributes Jio’s extended 5G usage to higher download speeds, which encourage subscribers to remain on the spectrum longer. Airtel’s lower time-on-5G reflects its Non-Standalone (NSA) deployment, where 5G relies on a 4G anchor for control signaling.

According to OpenSignal, 5G users across all operators experience fewer interruptions and less performance volatility than on 4G, reinforcing that 5G’s value lies not only in peak speeds but in delivering a more reliable day-to-day experience.

Vodafone Idea remains in early-stage 5G deployment with limited commercial availability across four circles. With sub-₹10,000 5G smartphones accelerating adoption, network stress will only increase, and the next phase will be won by operators that balance scale with consistency.
