Let’s be honest — when IU and Byeon Woo Seok were first announced as co-leads for MBC’s Perfect Crown, the internet practically combusted. Two of South Korea’s biggest stars, a contract marriage plot, and a fictional modern monarchy backdrop? This is exactly the kind of K-drama that comes along once in a while and defines an entire season of viewing. The first couple poster has now officially dropped — and Perfect Crown premieres on April 10, 2026, at 9:40 PM KST on MBC.

What Is Perfect Crown About?
The drama is set in an alternate version of modern-day Korea where the country operates as a constitutional monarchy. IU plays Sung Hee Joo, a chaebol heiress who has immense wealth and power — but lacks the one thing that matters in this world: royal status. She’s a commoner by birth, and in this Korea, that ceiling is impossible to break alone.
Enter Grand Prince Yi An (Byeon Woo Seok) — the second son of the king, with all the bloodline prestige in the world but none of the resources, influence, or future that comes with being first in line. He has the crown, but no real power.
Two people trapped by different kinds of limitation. One solution: a contract marriage that turns them into a strategic unit — husband and wife bound together, each unlocking what the other cannot achieve alone.
It’s a fresh, intriguing twist on the classic contract relationship trope — set against the opulent and politically charged backdrop of a functioning monarchy.
The First Poster Says Everything
The newly released couple poster shows Sung Hee Joo and Grand Prince Yi An moving in perfect step — a visual metaphor for the alliance they’ve forged. Their outfits incorporate classic Korean aesthetics and royal accessories, while their eyes — fixed ahead with quiet resolve — suggest two people who are all in, whatever the cost.
The chemistry between IU and Byeon Woo Seok even in a still image is undeniable. After his breakout lead role in Lovely Runner and IU’s acclaimed dramatic turns in My Mister and Hotel Del Luna, this pairing feels like a reward fans have genuinely earned.
