IU and Byeon Woo Seok Just Made K-Drama History Before Their Love Story Even Began

When you put IU and Byeon Woo Seok in the same drama, expectations are going to be sky-high. But Perfect Crown didn’t just meet those expectations on its premiere night — it absolutely shattered them, delivering ratings that place it among the greatest MBC drama debuts ever recorded.

Perfect Crown Premiere Ratings — The Numbers

According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode of “Perfect Crown” scored an average nationwide rating of 7.8 percent — more than double the finale rating of 3.1 percent achieved by its predecessor “In Your Radiant Season,” the drama that previously occupied its time slot last week.

On April 10, the highly anticipated new series kicked off on the third-highest premiere ratings of any Friday-Saturday drama in MBC history.

That’s an extraordinary debut — and a clear sign that the IU x Byeon Woo Seok combination is everything fans dreamed it would be.

What Is Perfect Crown About?

Set in an alternate universe where modern-day Korea is a constitutional monarchy, “Perfect Crown” tells the love story of Seong Hui Ju (IU), a chaebol heiress who has everything but is only a commoner in status, and Grand Prince Ian (Byeon Woo Seok), a prince who has nothing despite being the son of the king.

The premise is a delicious class-reversal romance wrapped in royal intrigue — the kind of setup that Korean dramas have mastered over decades, now elevated by two of the industry’s most beloved stars.
