Ireland defeated England in the 20th match of the T20 World Cup 2022, Super 12 Stage at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday, on October 26, and keep the group open. Ireland’s Andrew Balbirniw shined, scoring 62 runs in 47 deliveries. England lost by a narrow margin of 5 runs by the D/L method.
Ireland had shown a reasonable effort since Paul Stirling had hit a six and four. He was dismissed soon and Andrew Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker continued scoring good runs. They had a run stand of 82 for the second wicket that paved the way for Ireland’s victory and Balbirnie scored a fifty.
Tucker scored 34 in 27 and got run out. harry Tector got dismissed scoring zero. Chris Campher smashed three boundaries and scored 18 in just 11 balls. George Dockrell got dismissed for a duck. Ireland posted 157 though they had a spectacular start. Liam Livingstone and Mark Wood bagged three wickets for England.
England had a huge blow in the starting as Jos Buttler got dismissed for a duck. Alex Hales and Ben Stokes couldn’t make their mark as well. Harry brook and Malan had a small partnership. Brook got dismissed scoring only 18 runs off 21 deliveries and Malan got dismissed scoring only 35 runs off 37 balls. Moeen Ali had hit some good shots and it seemed that England was back on the track. The rain had some other plans and the D/L method was applied by which England suffered a loss by five runs.
