The IPL 2023 and the inaugural season of WIPL just got their dates. They’re going to start on April 1 and March 3 respectively. As per BCCI’s report, IPL is delayed by a week as it will start from 1st April instead of the third week of March.
The inaugural season of WIPL will be held for 23 days. The finale will take place on 26th March and this new league is the main reason for the delay in IPL.
The WIPL 2023 will be a 23-day affair. The FINAL of WIPL will be played on 26th March. This is the reason IPL Season 16 will begin with a delay on 1st April. Meanwhile, the IPL mini-auction will be held on December 23 in Kochi, Kerela where 405 cricketers around the world will go under the hammer.
Both leagues will take place in India. The WIPL will be taking place after a week of the Women’s T20 World Cup final and will be hosted on February 26 in Cape Town.
BCCI has released the Media Rights tender for WIPL. The next aim for the board will be to release an Invitation to Tender for the WIPL franchises.
Unlike IPL, WIPL will have zonal-based teams. Each team will be representing a particular zone.

In the inaugural edition, BCCI will is in plans to host the Women’s Indian Premiere League in Mumbai. The Women’s IPL has the potential to generate 1000 Crore plus at Auction for each franchise. It’s been doing rounds that the salary purse for the Women players can range from 40 Crore for each franchise.
Five franchises will compete in the league, and they will play a total of 22 games. Each squad may have a maximum of 18 players, including a maximum of six foreign players. The Playing XI can consist of up to five overseas players.
“It’s a new product but established concept. Just see the response we are getting for INDIA vs Australia series. This clearly shows Women Cricket has huge growth potential. We are sure each franchsie can fetch 1000 Crore plus. Players will be suitably paid and each franchise can have a player purse of 35-40 Crore”, confirmed top BCCI official
In WIPL, each franchise will play twice in a total of 20 matches. The table topper will be qualifying directly for the finale. The teams that finished at the second and third position will compete in the semifinale.
