Before WIPL takes place, the Women’s T20 World Cup final will be taking place on February 26 in Cape Town. However, BCCI hasn’t yet finalized the dates for the tournament. The board has to send the release invitation to tender for the WIPL franchises. WIPL will have zonal-based teams, unlike IPL which has city-based teams. Each franchise is set to represent a particular zone.

  • Dharamshala/Jammu (North)
  • Pune/Rajkot (West)
  • Indore/Nagpur/Raipur (Central)
  • Ranchi/Cuttack (East)
  • Kochi/Visakhapatnam (South)
  • Guwahati (North-East)

As per their reports, the BCCI will have to confirm the availability of foreign players. Season 16 will have the older format of home-and-away format which was forsaken for three years due to the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The BCCI will be finishing the IPL by the end of May because England and Ireland will be playing a one-off Test at Lord’s from June 1 to 4. The second ICC World Test Championship final will be taking place at the Oval. The Ashes will take place on June 16.

BCCI is yet to finalise whether this will be done via an auction or a draft. Player availability will remain a concern considering the WIPL could clash with the inaugural season of the Women’s Pakistan Super League (WPSL). While the PCB is yet to release a final plan for the tournament, March 18 has been earmarked as the date of the WPSL final.
