IPL 2022 is all set to start from March 22 and BCCI has allowed spectators in the stadium. However, this decision can be cancelled at any point in time by the Maharashtra Government in the next 7 days if there is a Covid 19 threat in the state. This development can prove to be an expensive thing for IPL 2022.
“We have received a letter from the central government to be on alert as there is a surge in Covid-19 cases across European Countries, South Korea and China.
Accordingly, our health department had issued a letter to DCs to be cautious and take necessary steps. IPL matches we don’t want to comment right now”– Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said in an interview.
The 15th edition of IPL will be held in the bio–bubble in Maharashtra with 70 league stage matches in Mumbai and Pune. The IPL GC and the Maharashtra Government had planned to allow a 50% crowd in the stadium. However, a week before, the plans have a very high chance to get changed. As per ANI, the central government has alarmed the Maharashtra government about the growing cases in European countries, China and South Korea.
IPL 2022: Maharashtra Government may allow no spectators in IPL matches if there is a hike in Covid 19 cases
As per reports, Maharashtra reported 171 new Covid-19 cases and three deaths on Friday. According to the state health department, 394 people recovered from the disease on Friday while the active number of cases stood at 1,680.
The infection tally in the state increased 78,72,203. The death toll in Maharashtra is 1,43,765.
The 2020 season of IPL was entirely held in the UAE after it got postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 2021 IPL season was held in India but then it was shifted to the UAE due to the second wave in May. IPL 2022 will be held in Maharashtra though the venue for playoffs hasn’t been announced yet.
