BCCI has stated that the final call on venues and schedule of IPL 2022 will be taken only after the IPL Auctions. Currently, IPL Auctions is the top priority and everything else will be decided after the Mega-Auctions.
India’s current Covid-19 scenario and its affect on the IPL Mega Auctions
India has reported more than 1.5 lakhs Covid-19 cases on Sunday out of which over 3500 cases were the highly transmissible Omicron variant of coronavirus. The BCCI is concerned about the entire situation and that’s why BCCI hasn’t declared a date or venue officially for the auctions.
BCCI is considering every available option to host the league in India but it’s key aim is to complete the auction first
As per reports, a BCCI official said “IPL Auctions will be in February 2nd Week. Bengaluru was the preferred venue but the final call will be taken after accessing the situation in next 7-10 days. We will inform all the franchises accordingly”
BCCI has postponed every other upcoming domestic tournament, Ranji Trophy included due to the pandemic. 2020-2021 IPL took place in UAE due to the ongoing pandemic, this year’s IPL may also have a foreign venue.
In the coming week, BCCI will be completing the formalities with CVC Capitals backed Ahmedabad franchise. The officials of the Ahmedabad franchise have already reached in Mumbai to sign the IPL franchise contract.
According to a BCCI official, “Some additional clauses are being added to the contract. Legal teams of both sides have agreed on the new drafts. We should complete the signing process next week,”
It’s only after the Ahmedabad franchise gets ‘Letter of Intent’ formally the franchise will be making some major announcements regarding the Coach and Support Staff.
