Delhi Capitals is an IPL team that is based out of Delhi. The franchise is owned by GMR Group and JSW Group. The team’s home ground is Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. In the year 2020, Delhi Capitals appeared in the finale for the first time.

History

In February 2008, the Delhi team was bought by the development company, GMR Group for US$84 million. In March 2018, GMR sold a 50% stake in Delhi Daredevils to JSW Sports for ₹550 crores (US$72 million). In the same year, Delhi Daredevils changed its name to Delhi Capitals. The co-owner of the franchise Parth Jindal said, “Delhi is the power centre of the country, it is the capital, therefore the name Delhi Capitals.” On the other hand, Kiran Kumar Grandhi said, “The new name symbolizes Delhi’s identity and just like the city, we are aiming to be the centre of all action going forward.”

Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, Anrich Nortje, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Shardul Thakur, Mustafizur Rahman, Kuldeep Yadav, Ashwin Hebbar, Abhishek Sharma, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, KS Bharat, Mandeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakariya, Lalit Yadav, Ripal Patel, Yash Dhull, Rovman Powell, Pravin Dubey, Lungi Ngidi, Vicky Ostwal, Sarfaraz Khan

Strength

Warner was the leading run-getter for the SRH franchise and hopefully, he will be getting a lot of runs here too. Warner’s experience can actually help the team to reach a good height this season. There is a lot of expectations of Mitchell Marsh since he is a destructive batter against pace at No 3 and Ponting decides to use him in a similar capacity for Delhi. DC’s middle order is quite strong with Marsh, Pant, Powell and Sarfraz Khan.

Weaknesses

DC’s pace attack doesn’t feel as threatening anymore if compared to the squads of other years. With the departure of both Kagiso Rabada and Avesh Khan, the bowling at the moment seems to rely heavily on Anrich Nortje to lead the attack. There is no investment in a backup overseas bowler for him whose primary strength is pace. DC’s new buy Rovman Powell can’t play in Indian conditions.
