iPhone 17 Series Shocker: All Models Get High Refresh Rates!

Rumors suggest that Apple will implement high refresh rate displays for every model in the iPhone 17 lineup. The Pro-Motion feature has been much talked about, as the standard iPhones have been limited to 60Hz, while Pro models have seen Pro motion support since 2021. As for this news, it is also in line with previous reports claiming that the next generations of iPhones will include LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) displays, most likely from Samsung and LG.

Apple’s iPhone 17 Series Expected to Feature High Refresh Rate Displays Across All Models

According to a report by ET News, which cites industry sources the iPhone 17 lineup arriving next year will feature LTPO displays likely supporting a 120Hz refresh rate. Apple is also likely to launch a ‘slim’ model (in place of Plus), as well as the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max all having LTPO panels as well. Apple has previously only used LTPO OLED technology in the Pro and Pro Max models, like this year’s iPhone 16 series, which allows for more power-efficient displays compared with the LTPS technology used in the regular models.

According to the report, Samsung Display and LG Display are expected to provide the OLED panels for the iPhone 17 lineup. Although panels for all models are likely provided by Samsung Display, the LG Display will likely be supplying the panel for the iPhone 17 Slim, for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max at least. Historically, Samsung Display and LG Display have supplied all of Apple’s LTPO screens for iPhones. Although Apple has sourced OLEDs from Chinese manufacturers, these have mainly been for LTPS panels, not LTPO.

While not officially confirmed, the iPhone 17 series is rumored to feature a 24MP front camera with six plastic lens elements, compared to the 12MP sensor on the iPhone 16 series. It may also utilize TSMC’s 3nm process node instead of the anticipated 2nm node, as reports suggest that the latter may not be ready for mass production until late 2025. The iPhone 17 Slim is expected to have a more compact design with a 6.6-inch display and a single rear camera, along with the A19 chipset. However, details about the iPhone 17 series remain speculative, with official announcements anticipated at the launch event.
