iPhone 17 Pro to Keep Triangular Camera Layout, Leaker Claims

Contrary to recent rumors, the iPhone 17 Pro will not feature a horizontal camera layout, according to the leaker “Instant Digital.” In a new Weibo post, the leaker said the source confirmed the back design of the iPhone 17 Pro has indeed changed — but the layout of the camera will still be “triangular”. This contrasts with the previous word that the cameras would be arranged in a “horizontal bar” format. These divergent reports stem from semiconductor supply chain sources in China, which previously reported that the module would take on an “elongated oval shape.”

iPhone 17 Pro Will Retain Triangular Camera Layout, Leaker Denies Horizontal Bar Rumors

Either fits within the preceding, doing a lot to contribute to a different facelift iPhone 11 Pro’s triangular look flaw is the camera layout as opposed to another word for its top camera layout. This change was made for a third camera, the Ultra Wide lens, and upgraded sensors and optics. Apple introduced this camera bump, because it became a signature design element for later iPhones, showing both on the iPhone 16 and the following generations.

Along with the camera arrangement, there are a handful of other expected changes in the design of the iPhone 17 Pro. Wayne Ma from The Information reported that the backs of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max would use a new “rectangular camera bump” built from aluminum rather than the run-of-the-mill 3D glass. The bottom of the phone is still glass, however, for support for wireless charging.

“Instant Digital” has had an inconsistent track record when it comes to Apple leaks, but it has accurately predicted some key details, including the launch of the Yellow iPhone 14, the frosted back of the iPhone 15, and other features of Apple’s recent devices. And so, considering these predictions have turned out to be spot-on, the latest gossip surrounding the camera layout of the iPhone 17 Pro should be treated with caution.
