With both Apple and maintaining a significant focus on sleekness and slim designs, the recently rumored iPhone 17 Air and Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim have been hotly debated. This focus on keeping thickness to a minimum does come with some compromises in terms of smaller batteries and other components. Details of those devices suggest their batteries may be smaller than anticipated.

iPhone 17 Air and Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim Rumored to Feature Smaller Batteries, Leaks Suggest

Now Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station believes that the iPhone 17 Air and Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim will feature battery packs with capacities ranging between 3,000 and 4,000mAh. This may cause a decrease in battery life unless Apple and Samsung can improve their software for usage. While Apple doesn’t officially disclose battery sizes, teardowns of the iPhone 16 show a 3,561mAh battery that provides solid performance. While the iPhone 17 Air still may have decent battery life if Apple does squeeze in a comparably sized battery, the slim design makes this seem improbable.

The iPhone 17 Air at its thinnest point will measure approximately 5.5mm thick, implying that it may get closer to the 13-inch iPad Pro’s 5.1mm thickness, based on leaks. Other specifications reported include a 48MP rear camera; no physical SIM slot, only e-SIM; adding an in-house 5G modem. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to cost around $900, similar to the iPhone Plus models it may replace, and launch alongside the iPhone 17 series in September.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim is rumored to have a thickness ranging from 6.1mm to 6.9mm, slimmer than the Galaxy S24’s 4,000mAh battery. The device is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, paired with 12GB of RAM, and run Android 15. The Galaxy S25 Slim is anticipated to launch in May, but it may be teased during Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22.
