Leaked Rumor Suggests iPhone 16 to Introduce Vertical Rear Camera Design

According to information released today by Twitter user @URedditor, the rear camera lenses on the less expensive iPhone 16 model will be positioned in a vertical orientation. Apparently, the iPhone 16 Plus would also receive the new look.

With the introduction of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, Apple made the switch to a diagonally placed back camera, and the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus continued the trend. With the announcement of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus later this year, the diagonal arrangement is anticipated to continue, but the devices will reportedly be the last ones to employ the layout.

All About The Vertical Rear Camera Design of iPhone 16

If this rumor is true, the iPhone 16 will reportedly feature a vertical design similar to that of the iPhone 12 and 12 mini. The leaker claimed that when combined with other more recent design features like the Dynamic Island and a USB-C connector, this modification will make the tablet “instantly recognizable” as the most recent version.

Beyond aesthetics, it’s unclear why Apple may be considering this change. The fact that Apple simply stated “a redesigned rear camera layout with diagonally placed lenses enables the advanced dual-camera system” at the time the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini were unveiled suggests that the company may have discovered a way to once again organise camera components vertically.

The iPhone 16 is not planned to be released until September 2024, thus Apple’s design intentions may alter before then. The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, which are rumored to have larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, are believed to have more significant upgrades. The vertical configuration would not work for those devices because their rear camera systems feature three lenses.

Before the feature’s arrival in 2020, @URedditor accurately shared some information concerning App Clips. More recently, he has gained notoriety as the first source to post a supposed real-world photograph of the iPhone 15 Pro featuring a USB-C connection as well as several other iPhone 15 facts. After the iPhone 15 is released, we’ll know more about the reliability of the source.
