According to a new research note, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is likely shaping up as this year’s mainstream favorite in Apple’s lineup, with lesser emphasis on standard models and increased focus being placed on ‘Pro’ variants. In fact, the ‘Pro’ models cost more but will still likely sell better than their standard variations as a result of innovations like Apple Intelligence and new size options.

The Upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max

According to The Elec, Apple is forecasting higher shipment volumes for the iPhone 16 Pro models compared to the standard ones, which will also see several new features. As has been true with ‘Pro’ models historically, these new devices will live up to their billing and outperform the standard ones. According to the report, Apple is expected to manufacture a grand total of 90.1 million iPhone 16 series units overall, with the iPhone 16 Plus warranting just an estimated share of only around 5.8 million units.

The basic iPhone 16 with 6.1 inches will be produced at a level of 24.5 million units, the smaller 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro is set for 26.5 million units. The iPhone 16 Pro Max will lead production with an estimated total of 33.2 million or around the equivalent to 37 percent of all units produced. By comparison, the iPhone 16 Plus is expected to account for just 6 percent of that total.

Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are set to be the most popular models, with a combined 67 percent of the production share, up from 60 percent for the iPhone 15 Pro series last year. This shift is attributed to the inclusion of advanced features and improvements in Apple Intelligence.

These features are unlikely to be available at launch, however, as iOS 18.1 is currently being tested with developers and slated for release in October. Also, the iPhone 16 series and its ‘Pro Max’ models will come with no major design changes from their predecessors. We have achieved the world’s thinnest thickness for iPhone 17, which is also expected to become more expensive. We shall be able to see, how well will the iPhone 16 series perform in terms of market.
