The Lightning port has been a feature of iPhones since the iPhone 5. This might soon change since there have been rumours and rumours that Apple may eventually abandon its proprietary port and switch to USB Type-C for the future iPhone 15 series. However, it turns out that in addition to the iPhone models for 2023, a few earlier iPhones may also be redesigned and given USB-C connectors in favour of Lightning ports.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus with a USB-C port rumoured details
Apple’s decision to redesign previous iPhones and switch to Type-C connections from Lightning ones isn’t guaranteed at this time. If the rumour is accurate, however, Apple’s choice might be justified in order to comply with the EU’s requirements that all devices sold in the region have USB-C connectors. Businesses must now use Type-C ports according to a rule that was passed in 2020.
If rumours are to be believed, the severe regulations and directives of the EU are the only reason the Cupertino giant is switching to USB-C connections beginning with the iPhone 15 series.
Apple may add USB-C charging connections to various earlier iPhone models in addition to the iPhone 15 models. Aaron, an author, and developer at Apple, made this revelation on X (formerly Twitter). Aaron discovered two iPhone models in tvOS 17 beta 5 that were absent from past beta editions when analysing the code. Furthermore, it is claimed that these two models differ from the four iPhone 15 references that can be found in earlier tvOS software releases.
The new iPhone models, identified as iPhone14,1 and iPhone14,9 in the software, are reportedly the conventional iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, but with USB-C charging connectors.
