It’s official, Apple through its upcoming iOS 15 update for iPhones, iPad OS 15 and macOS Monterey updates will be expanding the reach of FaceTime by allowing even users without Apple devices to participate in FaceTime calls.
In iOS 15 and its sister updates, you can create a link to a FaceTime conversation which can be shared anywhere. So you will not have to worry about your close friends and family not having an Apple device anymore to gain access to FaceTime.
Non-Apple users will be able to join a one-on-one FaceTime call or enter a group call but there is a catch, only Apple users will be able to initiate the FaceTime call and generate a link to circulate.
Apple has stated that users will need the latest versions of Chrome or Edge browsers to be able to join FaceTime calls as sending video call requests requires H.264 video encoding support.
The other updates that FaceTime will receive along with this are Spatial audio support, Portrait mode support, Voice isolation mode to drown out any background noises, and a grid view for viewing all participants. It will also feature a new SharePlay feature that’s designed to let you watch movies and listen to music with your friends and family.
