Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, and have made a €50 million bid for him. The Nerazzurri remain rigid over their €60 million asking price, but a bid worth €55 million should be enough to persuade them.
As the deal gets closer to being completed, Inter are looking at replacements for the former Ajax man. Bayern Munich shotstopper Yann Sommer has emerged as the priority for the 2023 Champions League finalists, and they have opened talks to sign him.
Yann Sommer on Inter’s list to replace Andre Onana
Sommer has been on Inter Milan’s list since last January, and is keen on the transfer to Serie A. He joined Bayern from Borussia Monchengladbach as the replacement for Manuel Neuer. The Bayern captain suffered a skiing accident that sidelined him for the rest of the season.
And after years of speculation over his future, the Swiss keeper finally made the move to Bavaria. He made 25 appearances for Die Roten and won the Bundesliga title with them. But with Neuer returning, his brief spell with Bayern is likely to come to an end. And Inter have emerged as the most probable option for him.
Manchester United are confident of getting the deal for Onana over the line. The 27-year-old is expected to be the first-choice goalkeeper for the coming season, with David De Gea’s future still uncertain.
Bayern want Giorgi Mamardashvili to replace Yann Sommer
With Neuer returning, Bayern are keen on signing another goalkeeper as their number two. And Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili has emerged as the top option for the Bavarians.
Sommer has a release clause worth €9 million, which is set to be triggered by Inter once they have agreed personal terms with him. And Valencia’s position on the transfer will be crucial in determining whether Mamardashvili will be making the move to the Bundesliga winners this summer.
