The Blue team will expand its 12th Gen processors portfolio for laptops at CES 2022 where it is expected to announce this new hybrid architecture based on Alder Lake-P processors. As rumours float, the lineup features CPUs with up to 14 cores and 20 threads which means all of these Alder Lake CPUs for mobile will come with a mixture of both Performance and Efficient cores.
So, the entire 12th Gen Alder Lake-P portfolio can be divided into six segments including the low-power M-series with 5W TDP, Ultra-Thin U series with 7W (mostly used for fanless design). The P-series will feature “U” suffix 12-15W and 20-28W drawing Mainstream processors for thin & light laptops.
The H-series will be there for gamers and as Videocardz points out the entire lineup is already leaked through repetitive Geekbench leaks. While we thought things will more simple to understand with 12th Gen Alder Lake but Intel has again made its lineup a bit complex to understand again!
The 12th Gen Intel Core i5 H-series lineup will include 8 core and 12 thread 12450H CPU along with a 12 core and 16 threaded Core i5-12500H option. Interestingly, the Core i7-12650H will have more Performance cores than Core i5 12500H while even the other CPUs like Core i7-12700H, Core i7-12800H, and Core i9-12900HK have also been leaked on Geekbench.
The real value processor will be the Core i7 12700H that will now pack a whopping 14 cores/20 threads, however, only 6 will be Performance cores and clock speeds limited to 4.6 GHz. The absolute flagship Core i9-12900HK will also sport 14 cores and surprisingly, only 6 of them will be performance but going up to 5.0 GHz boost frequencies.
Also, the P-Series shouldn’t be ruled out as these will draw up to 28W (U28) series and you will see already three of these CPUs are leaked Core i5-1240P (12 cores and 16 threads), Core i7-1260P and Core i7-1280P (both with 14 cores and 16 threads). Most of these 12th Gen Alder CPUs will feature integrated Xe-LP graphics with up to 96 Execution Units.
However, as you see in a lot of Geekbench results, the results might be a bit disoriented because the multi-threading performance has not been utilized properly. Still, these are not the final scores, or benchmarks to be relied on and there will be more CPUs being introduced by Intel next month at CES 2022.
