Intel will not provide protection to overclocking anymore

Intel had a unique plan that could be purchased separately with their overclockable processors to protect them even if they were somehow damaged due to overclocking. But, on March 1, 2021, Intel has announced the shut down of Performance Tuning Protection Plan service.

This supplementary warranty could be availed for just between $19.99 and $29.99, even though it was dubbed to be a 6-month pilot program but has gone on to stick around for 9 years. Obviously, the plan helped many gaming enthusiasts who overclocked their Intel CPUs for a nominal price but suddenly discontinued it is kind of unexpected from the Blue Team.

However, the plan had its own clauses, first, the overclocking failure has had to occur within Intel’s original warranty, also it should be a boxed CPU carrying a three-year warranty. Secondly, Intel would only issue one replacement for the damaged CPU, and you could not purchase another PTPP warranty for that replacement.

Intel, on the other hand, claims that the program was being discontinued because of lower demand for the plan “as customers increasingly overclock with confidence”. “Intel will continue focusing on delivering amazing processors with tuning flexibility and overclocking tools like Intel Performance Maximizer and Intel XTU,” the company said on its website.
