Intel Tiger Lake CPUs are coming soon and we already got evidence with the listing of the Acer Swift 5 with these CPUs and the Core i7-1165G7 will be the successor to the Ice Lake Core i7-1065G7. Although still, you will get quad-core CPUs this time to your surprise, these processors even take on AMD’s Zen 2 based octa-core APUs as well.
However, the main surprise lies for you in the graphics department, as Intel has silently developed a much stronger graphical weapon this time with the likes of Gen12 Xe iGPU. Thanks again to the prolific leakers @TUM_APIAK & @_rogame for their leaks that compare the new Core i7-1165G7 CPU with the current best AMD Ryzen 7 4700U.
The upcoming Tiger Lake CPU manages to score 5,304 points in CPU test while the Ryzen 7 4700U also scores 5,302 points. The Intel CPU has utilized a 28 W TDP being paired with fast LPDDR4x 4266 MHz RAM, which means this time Intel will also ramp up the RAM speed support and the AMD APU was tested with a default TDP of 25 W.
Also, AMD’s two best Ryzen 4000 APUs were also compared in this battle where the Ryzen 7 4700U at 15 W TDP with 8 core and 16 threads scored a whopping 7,115 points, thanks to a large number of threads. On the other hand, the Ryzen 9 4900HS with the same number of cores and threads scored a handsome 7,511 points.
CPUs | Intel Core i7-1165G7 | AMD Ryzen 7 4700U | AMD Ryzen 7 4800U | AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS |
---|---|---|---|---|
Cores/threads/TDP | 4/8/28 W | 8/8/25 W | 8/16/15 W | 8/16/35 W |
CPU Score | 5,304 points | 5,302 points | 7,115 points | 7,511 points |
Graphics Score | 1,482 points | 1,093 points | 1,237 points | 1,282 points |
If we keep the CPU performance, the main reason why AMD APUs got less 3DMark score is due to the fact that for the first time Intel has thrashed AMD on the iGPU department. Thanks, to the strong Intel Xe iGPU that scored 1,482 points, no AMD APU could actually match the Intel score, while the Core i7-1165G7 CPU thrashes the Ryzen 7 4700U by a huge 35.6% in the Time Spy Graphics Score.
These new Intel CPUs will bring a revolution to the integrated graphics market which was still in AMD’s favour, so gaming on laptop won’t be trouble this time even on a thin and ultra-portable notebook. But, the factor that will decide the market will be the price which obviously doesn’t generally turn into Intel’s favour but still such huge improvement on the graphics department is a good sign to the future.
