Intel takes a shot at rival AMD

We all know the famous rivalry between Intel and AMD. It is a proven fact that Intel is slowly losing its crown as the silicon giant in the tech industry. But that doesn’t mean it will lie down and take the blow. Instead, Intel has directly called out its rival in its latest presentation, claiming that AMD’s Ryzen 4000 mobile CPUs suffer major performance penalties when running on battery.

Apparently, Intel has tested multiple Ryzen laptops experiencing as much as 48 percent of performance drop when running on battery. It also claims that the laptops using Intel’s own 11th-gen Tiger Lake showed far less drop in performance, now this sounds fishy.

Intel even went as far as to claim that it has tested five different AMD laptops against five different Intel laptops. It ran the common benchmarks and its own workloads using common applications such as Word, Excel, and Acrobat. It then claims that the Ryzen-based laptops tended to throttle down on battery and they also stayed throttled down to apparently save battery life.

The company also claims that it found one popular 3D-rendering benchmark, Maxon’s CineBench R20, that did not suffer the same performance drop. And the reason given by the company is that all of the Ryzen-based laptops delayed boosting clock speeds by several seconds. The Ryzen 4000’s performance drops on shorter loads because Ryzen delay’s its boost by several seconds, as Intel claimed.

Well, every person has a different laptop requirement. If you say that Intel’s claims are correct and AMD’s Ryzen 4000 CPUs throttle down to save battery, some might like it, some might not. We already know that AMD is a preferred platform for video editing and 3D modeling. It’s like one rival dissing the other. But it will be interesting to see as to have AMD will respond to intel’s allegations. As for now, let’s wait and watch how the curtain unfolds.
