When overclocked on a motherboard that supports Non-K BCLK operation, such as the MSI MAG B760M Mortar Max, Intel’s Core i5-12400 performs admirably. It was recently rumoured that MSI’s forthcoming MAG B760M Mortar MAX WIFI motherboard will be one of the few designs to support Non-K BCLK overclocking. We saw a 5.0 GHz overclock on the Intel Core i5-12400 CPU using the motherboard, and now we see a variety of gaming benchmarks that put the overclocked chip to the test.
The leak, which comes from the highly credible chi11eddog, shows the Intel Core i5-12400 CPU overclocked to 5 GHz and tested at 1440p with a GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion, Final Fantasy XIV, Red Dead Redemption 2 and F1 2022 were among the games used. The stock Core i5-13400 & Core i5-13600K CPUs were compared to the Core i5-12400 (5 GHz).
The Intel Core i5-12400 at 5 GHz delivered up to 8% greater performance in games, even coming close to the Core i5-13600K.
This is consistent with clock speeds that are 8.5% higher than the highest boost on the Core i5-13400, which is 4.6 GHz. These tests demonstrate that consumers with a solid Non-K BCLK motherboard may still get some more juice from their processors.
MSI now provides the B660M Mortar MAX WIFI series, which has the same overclocking capabilities as the B660M Mortar MAX series. Anyone moving to the newer B760 Max series could expect similar features and improved performance without having to pay extra money for a higher-end chip.
