Intel witnesses its client PC market share increase by 23%

According to Jon Peddie Research, the client CPU market appears to have stopped its decreasing trend, with Intel leading the race over AMD. For a long time, the client CPU market has been declining. Both Intel and AMD have suffered significant losses since the pandemic and the global economic condition, but that has reversed this quarter as the market begins to recover.

According to the most recent Jon Peddie Research data, PC Client CPU units reached 53.6 million in Q2 2023, a 17% rise from the previous quarter, while iGPU shipments increased by 14% (49 million units). The notebook market dominated with a 72% share, while desktop CPU shipments held at 28%, a modest decrease from the previous quarter.Desktop CPU shipments fell by -25%, while laptop shipments fell by -22%.

When it comes to AMD and Intel, the red side witnessed a -5.3 percent decrease in market share, while Intel’s share increased by 23%.

This is primarily due to Intel’s emphasis on entry-level and mainstream chips, whereas AMD CPUs were only focused on high-end markets. However, AMD did add more mainstream options inside its Ryzen CPU family, and the ramp of Phoenix Ryzen 7040 APUs will help improve shipments. Meanwhile, Intel is working on the Raptor Lake Refresh CPU family for desktops and the Meteor Lake CPU family for laptops, which will be a big growth factor for the firm in the second half of 2023.
