Intel Arc B580 Battlemage GPU Spotted, Strengthening Strategy

According to NBD.ltd shipping logs, Intel’s first Arc Battlemage GPU, the Arc B580 has been spotted as well, hinting that they would be releasing one soon. This is pretty vague, but it may be announcing Intel’s client-facing gaming desktop graphics processor that has been rumored for nearly as long as the actual product (and not publicly confirmed by the company). Discovered in a leak by user @josefk972, the model name is INTEL BMG B580, which might be under the Xe2-based Arc Battlemage series of graphics cards.

The Arc B580 will be a likely mid-range part to succeed Intel’s previous Alchemist Arc A580. The log also includes the GPU’s packaging dimensions—192 x 89 x 381 mm—suggesting it’s a typical discrete desktop card. While the Arc A580 cost under $200 and delivered solid performance per dollar, a similar price could be anticipated for the Battlemage B580. This leak reaffirms that Intel has not backed down from discrete GPU ambitions, despite rumors to the contrary earlier in the year.

However, the company still faces challenges in the high-end GPU market, where NVIDIA’s Blackwell series dominates. This leads us to believe that Intel will stick with budget and mid-range GPUs, going up against AMD’s RDNA 4-based Navi 44 and 48. Intel’s upcoming Battlemage line based on the Xe2-HPG architecture should represent at least a modest evolution over its Alchemist series, but we suspect it still won’t effectively challenge AMD or NVIDIA.

Intel 3 1 Intel Arc B580 Battlemage GPU Spotted, Strengthening Strategy

The Arc Battlemage GPUs will be a step up from the Alchemist cards, which will basically just be an uplift over Intel’s first-gen discrete graphics two years ago. Perhaps Intel will get into more specifics about the Battlemage series by the end of 2024, or perhaps early 2025, just in time for next-gen GPUs from NVIDIA and AMD to launch. The Arc Battlemage series could debut as early as December 2024.
