According to Taiwanese publication DigiTimes, citing industry sources, Intel is in talks with specific PC vendors to reduce Alder Lake prices by up to 20%, a move that comes after Intel increased CPU prices in Q4 2022.
Intel, like most technology companies, is feeling the effects of a volatile economy that has seen consumer demand for expansive products plummet. The company recently reported massive quarterly losses, reduced employee wages and bonuses, and cancelled R&D expansion plans.
Intel is struggling to move large amounts of inventory at a time when customers are reducing their stock levels as consumer demand declines.
Slashing the price of Alder Lake, which uses a hybrid core design, could be a good way to get rid of excess inventory. Customers who purchased the chips before the new year, according to DigiTimes, are outraged by the price drop.
Harukaze5719, a Twitter user, has created a table that shows the Alder Lake chips’ launch prices, their prices after the Q4 2022 increase, and how much they will be after the 20% reduction. Some of the more expensive models, such as the excellent Core i9-12900 series and the Core i7-12700K, will see their prices drop by more than $100.
