IndiGo Reports Profit of ₹919.2 Crores in Q4, Marks Remarkable Recovery in Revenue

IndiGo reported a profit of ₹919.2 crore for the quarter ending in March, in contrast to its loss of ₹1,681.8 crore during the same period the previous year. The airline’s operating revenue increased 76.5% year over year (YoY) to ₹14,160.6 crores during the quarter under review compared to ₹8,020.7 crores during the same time last year. The airline’s passenger ticket sales for the quarter increased by 80.6% YoY to ₹12,434.6 crores, while ancillary sales increased by 36.6% YoY to ₹1,445.9 crores.

In comparison to the same period the previous year, the company’s EBITDA for Q4 was ₹2,966.5 crores. However, as compared to the airline’s PAT in the December quarter of FY23, which was ₹1,422.6 crores, it fell by 35.4% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ). The company’s operating revenue decreased sequentially, by 5.2% quarter over quarter, from the prior quarter’s ₹14,933 crores.

The airline’s net loss for the entire year was ₹305.8 crores. The company’s operating revenue in FY23 was ₹54,446.5 crores, up from ₹25,930.9 crores in FY22. EBITDA for the company in the year under review was ₹7,311.6 crores, compared to ₹1,148 crores in FY22. By market share, IndiGo, the largest airline in the nation, has a total cash balance of ₹23,424.3 crores as of March 31, 2023. This amount was made up of ₹11,229.5 crores in restricted cash and ₹12,194.8 crores in free cash. The total debt for the airline was ₹44,854.2 crores (capitalized operating lease liability included).

At the end of the first quarter of 2023, the airline had 304 aircraft in its fleet, an increase of 2 passenger aircraft, comprising 21 A320 CEOs, 162 A320 NEOs, 2 A321 freighters, 1 B777 (damp lease), 79 A321 NEOs, and 39 ATRs. Including non-scheduled flights, IndiGo flew to 78 domestic and 22 foreign destinations at its busiest during the third quarter, averaging 1,815 daily flights. According to the company, capacity in terms of available seat kilometers (ASKs) is anticipated to rise in the first quarter of fiscal year 24 by about 5-7% compared to the final quarter of fiscal year 2023.
