India’s Gaming Revolution: LVL Zero’s First Cohort Is Proving Indian Studios Can Tell Stories That Shake the World

India’s gaming scene has long been synonymous with mobile and hypercasual titles. LVL Zero is changing that narrative — one emotionally immersive PC game at a time.

Backed by MIXI Global Investments, Nazara Technologies, and Chimera VC, LVL Zero is India’s first gaming incubator, and its inaugural cohort — selected from 240+ applications — features three studios building story-driven PC and console games with genuine global ambition.

LVL Zero Meet the Three Studios Redefining Indian Game Dev

PHi: The Broken Strings drops players inside a puppet universe built from psychological states — fear, grief, control, acceptance — turned into actual environments and characters. “Instead of telling emotions directly, we turn them into spaces,” says Mani Ghadi, Co-Founder, Kyrel Games.

Trox: The Reversal takes horror somewhere genuinely uncomfortable — a post-nuclear brutalist world where the dread comes not from jump scares but from moral choices and systemic survival. Co-Founder Vinil Verghese calls it humane horror: “The horror comes from the world, its systems, and the choices people are forced to make.”

Last Day Lockdown is the most grounded of the three — a corporate office escape-room exploring nostalgia, farewell, and the emotional weight of moving on. “The experience of farewell is something players around the world can relate to,” says Kunal Negi, Co-Founder, Wrought Studios.

Why LVL Zero Matters?

The incubator runs a 100-day execution-first program combining mentorship, publishing readiness, and operational support. Partners include Google Play, ID@Xbox, AppsFlyer, and several others — giving early-stage founders real infrastructure to go global.

“They are not building around trends or replication. They are building around emotion, atmosphere, and player experience,” said Sagar Nair, Head of Incubation, LVL Zero.

This shift — from service-led mobile work to original IP for PC and console — mirrors a broader narrative game design evolution happening globally, and India is finally at the table.
