Construction Milestones That Matter

The project showcases impressive engineering feats. Over 330 km of viaducts have been constructed using cutting-edge Full Span Launching Method, accelerating construction up to 10 times faster than traditional techniques. The infrastructure includes 13 river bridges and a groundbreaking 7 km undersea tunnel beneath Thane Creek.

According to the National High-Speed Rail Corporation, civil work is complete at six of eight Gujarat stations, while Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex underground terminus is 75% excavated. Indigenous manufacturing has become a cornerstone, with India producing straddle carriers, launching gantries, and other specialized equipment domestically.

What Makes This Project Special?

Funded primarily through a 50-year Japanese loan at just 0.1% interest via JICA, this corridor uses Japanese Shinkansen technology adapted for Indian conditions. The trainsets, manufactured by Integral Coach Factory Chennai, will feature air-conditioning, reclining seats, accessibility amenities, and entertainment systems—all at approximately ₹27.86 crore per coach.

Environmental consciousness drives design choices too, with over 300,000 noise barriers installed along the route. The elevated structure minimizes land acquisition challenges while eliminating dangerous level crossings entirely.
