India fell by four wickets in the second T20, giving South Africa a 2-0 lead in the five-match T20 series.
Here’s what skipper Rishabh Pant thinks went wrong.
Pant discussed how they fell short by 10-15 runs, the spinners’ performance, and other topics during the post-match interview.
In terms of spinners, Axar could only be granted one over, during which he conceded 19 runs. Chahal had a similar performance, conceiving 49 runs in four overs.
Axar has given up 59 runs in five overs in both games, while Chahal has gone for 75 runs in six overs. Pant stated at the post-match presentation ceremony without explaining, “The spinners have (to) come (perform) better into the game.”
Reasons behind Team India’s failure in two T20s in a row
At the moment, Team India’s batting department is devoid of high-ranking players. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have decided to sit out the rest of the series. KL Rahul was set to captain the squad, however, he was replaced by Rishabh Pant due to an injury. At the present, the squad is without proper guidance.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has started both of the games against South Africa so far but has failed to impress. In the first game, he hit 23 home runs, but just one in the second. He was dismissed softly in both bouts. Venkatesh Iyer should take his post. The move may appear to be unjust to Ruturaj Gaikwad. After a long wait on the sidelines in the last series, he has finally gotten his moment. However, it’s fair to argue that in international cricket, he hasn’t quite looked the part. Gaikwad has only accumulated 63 runs with a strike rate of 114.54 in the five T20Is he has played so far.
Following India’s dismal bowling performance in the two matches so far, the demand for rookie fast bowler Umran Malik’s participation has grown. Sunil Gavaskar, the famous Indian cricketer, has urged the Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler to play in the third T20I.
Avesh Khan has handled the ball admirably. In the first T20I, he bowled four overs for 35 runs and three overs for 17 runs. He hasn’t looked as penetrative as Team India would have hoped, and he hasn’t picked up a wicket. Arshdeep Singh should be given an opportunity in his place.
