India had only managed 56 runs in the first ten overs before the Hardik-Karthik partnership upped the scoring rate. Karthik went on to register his first T20I fifty, while Hardik died after scoring 46. He scored 55 runs off just 27 deliveries, hitting nine fours and two sixes on his way to fifty. Captain Bavuma of South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl against an unchanged India.

South Africa made three changes, with Marco Jansen, a fit-again Quinton de Kock, and Lungi Ngidi replacing Kagiso Rabada, Wayne Parnell, and Reeza Hendricks. India, on the other hand, chose to keep their team the same. After outwitting India in the first two games, the Proteas were on the receiving end in the third and ultimately lost. The hosts, led by Rishabh Pant, came back from a 2-0 deficit in the series to win the third T20I game in Vizag by 48 runs.
