India delivered a bowling masterclass at Eden Gardens as South Africa stumbled to 154/8 by tea on Day 1 of the first Test. Axar Patel’s timely strike capped off a dominant second session where Mohammed Siraj’s double blow dismantled the Proteas’ middle order.

India vs South Africa Match Summary

Bumrah Sets the Tone

Jasprit Bumrah orchestrated the demolition with three crucial wickets. His 140 kmph delivery around the wicket seamed back sharply to castle Ryan Rickelton for 23, triggering the collapse. The next over, he extracted vicious bounce to dismiss Aiden Markram (31 off 48) caught behind by Dhruv Jurel.

After lunch, Bumrah trapped Tony de Zorzi LBW, leaving South Africa reeling at 120/5.

Siraj’s Stunning Comeback

Mohammed Siraj endured a tough start, conceding 34 runs in his first six overs. But persistence paid off spectacularly. In his 10th over, he produced a magical double strike—dismissing Kyle Verreynne (16) LBW and breaching Marco Jansen’s defense within four deliveries. His exploits reduced the Proteas to 147/7.

Axar Completes the Rout

Axar Patel joined the party at the perfect moment, removing Corbin Bosch (3) just before tea. His wicket ensured India seized complete control, with South Africa losing five wickets in the second session alone.

Kuldeep’s Crucial Intervention

Kuldeep Yadav struck twice—first dismissing Temba Bavuma (3) through smart field placement at leg slip, then trapping Wiaan Mulder with a reverse sweep gone wrong.
