  • Eden Gardens and Chepauk shortlisted: The Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata and the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai have been shortlisted to host the marquee clash between India and Pakistan in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Chepauk also has an outside chance of hosting the game.
  • India-Pakistan matches in the past: Eden Gardens has hosted several India versus Pakistan clashes in the past, including the one that was played in the T20 World Cup 2016. In the match, India defeated Pakistan by six wickets as Virat Kohli played a brilliant knock of 55* runs off 37 deliveries. Previously, the IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali hosted the iconic Indo-Pak match which India won by 29 runs during the 2011 ODI World Cup.
  • Controversy surrounding Pakistan’s participation: The controversy surrounding Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup on Indian soil has not yet been resolved, as the Pakistan Cricket Board had previously requested that Bangladesh be considered for hosting Pakistan’s World Cup matches. Even though that is highly unlikely, Pakistan and India have not reached a decision on this, so the discussions are still ongoing.
  • Other venues: 12 venues have been finalized to host all the matches of the upcoming World Cup. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has been shortlisted to host the final, and each venue is expected to host four matches.
  • India’s Asia Cup matches likely to be hosted outside Pakistan: India’s Asia Cup matches are likely to be held outside of Pakistan. PCB chief Najam Sethi was initially against the idea, but he eventually agreed to the proposal of conducting India’s matches in another nearby country, provided ICC and BCCI honor their request regarding their stand on the World Cup venue. Countries such as the UAE, Oman, and Sri Lanka are being considered to host India’s Asia Cup matches.

The ODI World Cup is likely to start on October 5 and get over on November 19.#INDvPAK #WorldCup2023 https://t.co/y7KqcjvAui
