India levels the Test series with a win against Australia

India registered a win against Australia in the second Test and levels up the series by 1-1.

India holistically beat Australia by eight wickets in the Boxing Day Test match. The 70-run score seemed very less when debutant Shubman Gill who has been impressive on his debut and captain Ajinkya Rahane, who scored a century in the first innings, started smashing Aussie bowlers all around the ground.

Shubman Gill, who was 35 not out, and skipper Rahane, who was 27 not out, easily knocked out the runs in 15.5 overs to complete the victory.

Jasprit Bumrah, 2/54 in 27 overs, and debutant Mohammed Siraj, 3/37 in 21.3 overs, both were accurate and speedy during the crucial Test match session and also maintained their calm and composure as they accounted for three wickets and played a very important role in Team India’s victory.

Interestingly, India has also become the third team after West Indies and New Zealand to come back from being 0-1 down to win the second Test of a series in Australia in the last 50 years.

Ajinkya Rahane becomes the first to receive the Mullagh medal as Cricket Australia had announced that the Man of the match of every Boxing Day Test from 2020 onwards will receive this award which is named after Australian Aboriginal all-rounder Johnny Mullagh

Not only this but this is India’s 52nd away test win as Melbourne is now India’s favourite venue for away wins as they have won 4 Tests at the MCG during the 1978 tour.

India took a lead of 131 runs in the first innings, and due to the century by skipper Ajinkya Rahane, The run chase for Australia increased. The Aussies again started from 133 for six and added more 67 runs before getting bowled before lunch in the extended first session.

Although the boxing test has been without the stars like, skipper Virat Kohli who is on paternity leave, Rohit Sharma, who is in quarantine, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma, as they are injured. But Ajinkya Rahane and Co. ensured that they don’t lose their nerves.
