What Happened on May 13
Inder was allegedly abducted on the evening of May 13 while she had gone out in her white Ford Figo car to buy groceries. She never returned home.
On May 13, Sukhwinder Singh and his accomplices allegedly intercepted Inder’s vehicle, abducted her at gunpoint, murdered her, and dumped her body into the Neelo Canal before fleeing the country through the same Nepal route he had used to enter India.
Her brother Jotinder Singh stated that Inder had spoken to Sukhwinder on the night of May 13 around 10 PM, telling him she was returning home. Shortly after, her phone was switched off and she could no longer be contacted.
A Friendship That Turned Deadly
According to the family, Sukhwinder had allegedly been forcing Inder to marry him despite already being married and having children. After Inder discovered his marital status, she refused to marry him. Police suspect the two had become friends on Instagram around five years ago.
A relative and former municipal councillor, Jaspal Singh Giaspura, said that Sukhwinder had maintained a relationship with Inder Kaur for nearly five to six years, had visited her during her birthday celebrations earlier this year, and had promised marriage in March but kept delaying it.
Family Accuses Police of Delayed Action
The victim’s family has raised questions over delayed police action. They claim that despite an FIR being filed on May 15 against Sukhwinder Singh and another accused, Karamjit Singh, timely intervention could have saved the singer’s life.
Police confirmed that Sukhwinder’s father, Pritam Singh, and his friend Karamjit Singh have been arrested in connection with the case, while the main accused remains absconding.
The body was recovered during the early hours of Tuesday and shifted to the Civil Hospital mortuary in Samrala for post-mortem examination.
