India defeated Bangladesh and sealed the win by 59 runs easily. Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana were the highlights. The team is now at the No.1 position in the Points Table with four victories from 5 matches.

The Indian spinners dominated the field and the half-century from Shafali Verma helped them beat Bangladesh in their Women’s Asia Cup 2022 match at Sylhet on Saturday.

India- W vs Bangladesh- W: Match Highlights

Bangladesh was chasing 160 runs, Fragana Hoque and Murshida Khatun had helped Bangladesh get into a very good start. They had a very good approach in the beginning, with the hosts scoring 30/0 in the first six overs with Hoque scoring 18* and Khatun mustering 11* runs.

They had a good partnership but Spinner Sneh Rana sent Khatun back to the pavilion for 21 in 25 deliveries. Bangladesh’s score at 9.1 overs was 45/1. Bangladeshi captain Nigar Sultana was next in the lineup. In the 14t over, Hoque got dismissed by Deepti Sharma.

Bangladesh was at 68/2 in 13.4 overs. Rumana Ahmed was dismissed by Deepti Sharma again. After the 15th over, Bangladesh was only at 70/3 . Ritu was dismissed by Renuka Singh for 4 off 12 deliveries. Shefali took Nigar’s wicket too who mustered 36 runs off 29 balls. Bangladesh finished at 100/7 in 20 overs, Nahida Akter being missed for a duck. The hosts lost the match by 57 runs to India.

In the first innings, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana had a 96 run stand that helped India to get to 159/5 in 20 overs against Bangladesh. At the end of the powerplay, in six overs India was at 59/0 and Smriti Mandhana was unbeaten at 31 and Verma was at 26 not out. After 12 years, the 96-run stand between Mandhana and Verma got shattered after Mandhan was out for 47 off 38 balls. Shafali was dismissed for 55 runs off 44 deliveries after being bowled by spinner Rumana Ahmed.

Rumaima’s bowling helped Bangladesh make a comeback in the match and picked the wickets of Richa Ghosh(4) and Kiran Navgire (0). Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma helped India gather 29 runs more before Salma Khatun dismissed Deepti for 10 runs off 5 balls. Pooja Vastrakar joined Rodrigues for the last few deliveries and India finished at 159/5 in 20 overs.
