ICC T20 World Cup semifinals: New Zealand vs England in 1st semifinal, Pakistan vs Australia in the 2nd one

T20 World Cup 2021 has finally got its semifinalists, which is held in UAE. Sadly, India couldn’t register its name in the semifinals for this season but surely there are more opportunities to come. Afghanistan also got dismissed from the tournament as the team got defeated by New Zealand on Sunday. The kiwis are all set to play against England in the 1st Semifinal and Pakistan will be playing against Australia in the 2nd semifinal.

India got dropped from the tournament as Afghanistan lost against New Zealand

Kohli and his team lost the first two very important matches against Pakistan and New Zealand. India will be playing against Namibia on Monday but unfortunately, that could not pave India’s way to the semifinals. The last time India got knocked off before the semifinals were in WT20, Sri Lanka.

This is the 3rd time New Zealand is qualified as a semifinalist in T20 World Cup following 2007 and 2016.

Teams that have made it to the semifinals most of the times

Australia- 16 times

India, Pakistan- 15 times

New Zealand- 14 times

England- 13 times

Pakistan is the only team of this season that has won all 5 matches in group stage levels which helped it top the points table in Group 2. Pakistan on Sunday beat Scotland and finalized the knockouts list.

England lost one game against South Africa but still, it ranked number 1 in group 2. Despite defeating England, South Africa still couldn’t make it to the semifinals, the reason is they have a lower run rate (NRR) than England. Though England, Australia and South Africa have reached 8 points but they two could only make it to the semifinals. Australia with an NRR of +1.216 had a victory against West Indies and finished at second place.

T20 Semifinals schedule

England vs Australia will be held at Abu Dhabi on 10 November. (7:30 pm IST)

Pakistan vs New Zealand will be held at Dubai on 11 November( 7:30 pm IST)
