The ICC Men’s ODI rankings are important for any batter as it tells how much he has improved in the format. The ODI format is a good way to get talented players involved in the sport. Let’s have a look at the 5 batters who were at No.1 on most consecutive days.

1. Viv Richards- 1748 days

Viv Richards had a strike rate of 90+ when he retired. It wasn’t an easy thing in his days. He was featured in the World Cup-winning teams in 1975 and 1979. He mustered a century in 1979 that helped the team win in the finale. He is known for his destructive batting style. He was at the No.1 position in ODI for 1748 days which is the highest for any batter.

2. Michael Bevan – 1259 days

The Australian cricketer made his ODI debut on April 14, 1994, against Sri Lanka. He was a reliable batter at the bottom of the middle over and helped the team many times to win after the top order collapsed. He was even nicknamed “The Finisher”. In his career, he smashed 21 sixes in 232 ODI matches. He’s second on this list being the No.1 for 1259 days.

3. Virat Kohli – 1258 days

Kohli is considered to be one of the best batters in the world. His best years in the format were in 2017 and 2018 when he mustered 6 ODI centuries in each of these years. After 2019, he had a century drought but in the recently concluded series against Bangladesh, he scored another ton. He has been on the top for straight 1258 days.

4. Dean Jones – 1146 days

He made his ODI debut against Pakistan at Adelaide Oval in January 30, 1884. He was one of the main contributors in the middle order in both Test and ODI formats. In Australia’s victory in 1987, he was the main architect. He played his last ODI against South Africa at Newlands in 1994.

5. Brian Lara – 1049 days

Last on the list is Brian Lara. He made his ODI debut against Pakistan in 1990. He mustered 10,000+ runs in this format his highest being 169 in 129 deliveries. He is also considered to be one of the greatest batters of all time. His last ODI was against England in 2007. He was at the top of the ODI ICC rankings for 1049 days.
