Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav has been nominated for the ICC Men’s T20I cricketer of the year 2022 along with Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan), Sam Curran (England), and Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe). The winner will be chosen by online fan voting and ICC Voting Academy. The voting will be starting in early January 2023 and the winners will be announced by the end of the month.
1. Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav had a phenomenal performance in 2022 in the T20s and became the second batter to muster 1000 runs in a calendar year in this format. He is the highest run-scorer in this year, amassing 1164 runs at a strike rate of 187.43. Further, he smashed 68 sixes in this year in T2OIs which is again the highest. He scored two hundred and nine half-centuries in the T20I. In the T20 World Cup 2022, he hit three fifties in six games at a strike rate of 189.68. In the bilateral series against New Zealand, he had an impressive performance too. This year saw him scoring his maiden century against England too.
2. Sikandar Raza- Zimbabwe
Pakistan-born Zimbabwe player Sikandar Raza too had an exceptional year. He scored 735 runs in this year with a strike rate of above 150 and gathered more than 250 runs in T20Is. He did brilliantly in the bowling department as well scalping 25 wickets at an economy rate of 6.13.
3. Sam Curran- England
For Sam Curran, the year-end went well as he became the most expensive in IPL. Punjab Kings bought him for a whopping amount of Rs,18.50 crore. He gained prominence in T20s with his death bowling. In the recently concluded T20 World Cup, the best English bowlers were missing from the scene and he showed the world his potential. He rose to prominence, particularly with death bowling. By then of the tournament he ended with 13 wickets after Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka who scalped 15. He also won the Player of the Tournament award this year.
4. Mohammad Rizwan- Pakistan
Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Rizwan gathered 996 runs in 2022 having a spectacular year in the T20 format. He smashed 10 half-centuries and scored 175 runs in T20 World Cup. His average was 45.27 in T20Is and became one of the best contemporary batters from Pakistan. His best performance was against England in T20 World Cup as he scored an 88 off 51 deliveries.
Fans can vote from the ICC website. The voting academy will submit their votes by email and hold a 90 percent share of the vote. The vote from fans will account for a 10 percent share of the vote. The results of the fan vote and the ICC Voting Academy picks will be added to determine the winner.
