The International Cricket Council is establishing a plan to begin the process to sell the next media rights for the next cycle that starts from 2024 and will end by 2031. However, one thing to point out is the fact that the ICC is planning to sell the media rights two years in advance. As per sources, ICC is taking measures as it is uncomfortable regarding IPL tender rights going into the market next year as that would mean that they would get bigger bids for selling media rights.

Hence to take countermeasures, the International council has decided to go through with the plan of selling the media rights at least 24 months before the next cycle commences. Thus the board is planning to start the process by December this year. Subsequently, a verified source from the ICC has revealed the reason for initiating the selling process of media rights.

“It’s right, ICC is initiating the selling process before the end of this year. They don’t want to get caught in the crossfire as BCCI is likely to launch IPL media rights tender before March – April 2022. Another big change would be that ICC this time is likely to shun the process of selling all rights to one broadcaster as is the case with the current cycle of ICC rights where Star holds the entire global pie. ICC is likely to distribute their rights on territory to territory basis.”

Further, it includes four Men’s T20 World Cup( 2024, 2026, 2028, 2030), two 50 over champions trophies (2025, 2029) and four world test championship tournaments(2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031).
