Cricket has only featured once in the Olympics that too in 1900. Since then, the game has never been featured in this historic event. However, things could change as ICC are serious to get Cricket back in the Olympics.
ICC has intensified its intentions by preparing a bid for its inclusion in the Los Angeles games in 2028. Moreover, The International Council of Cricket has confirmed that they are bringing together a group that will lead the bid with the goal of Cricket becoming an Olympic sport by Los Angeles 2028.
Greg Barclay who is the independent ICC chair quoted that ” Our sport is united behind this bid, and we see the Olympics as part of cricket’s long-term future.”
He also mentioned that “We have more than a billion fans globally and almost 90 percent of them want to see cricket at the Olympics. We believe cricket would be a great addition to the Olympic Games, but we know it won’t be easy to secure our inclusion as there are so many other great sports out there wanting to do the same.”
‘But we feel now is the time to put our best foot forward and show what a great partnership cricket and the Olympics could be.’
The intention of ICC will make Cricket fans happy across the globe
ICC’s announcement to try and add Cricket as a sport in Olympics has made Cricket fans very delighted. The wishes of numerous cricket fans across the world would come true if ICC manages to secure Cricket’s inclusion.
This would benefit the sport as well as the Olympics vastly. Because Cricket has a large audience around the world and it would attract new viewers. Therefore fans will be happy as ICC is serious about Cricket’s inclusion.
As a result, if Cricket is included as a sport it will be great news and it will break the internet. However, it won’t be easy as Greg Barclay pointed out. Consequently, everyone will have to wait for the development of ICC’s bid.
