In line with the Tata Altroz iCNG, Hyundai has come up with twins in terms of CNG technology-derived alternative mobility solutions. This in-house developed technology here is called the Hy-CNG Duo, with it arriving first on their most popular Exter sub-4m crossover SUV. It represents a major step forward in the availability of CNG powertrain options, likely making such vehicles more appealing to customers.
The New Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo
Even Hy-CNG Duo has been trademarked by HMIL, which indicates that the sibling to Swift could introduce a dual-cylinder CNG very soon. After that, they first launched the Exter SUV with a Hy-CNG Duo kit. Naturally, Hyundai will continue to offer each CNG single- and twin-cylinder options across the range as a way of reiterating its choice.
At present, the Exter Hy-CNG Duo is available, while possible future expansions may apply to models such as the Grand i10 NIOS and Aura. The Exter Hy-CNG Duo models are priced from ₹8.5 lakh Ex-showroom. The line-up of these models also consists of the S Hy-CNG Duo, SX Hy-CNG Duo priced from ₹9.23 lakh ex-showroom, and SX Knight Hy-CNG Duo priced from ₹9.38 lakh ex-showroom.
These three versions have a 1.2L 4-cylinder NA petrol bi-fuel engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox with mileage up to 27.1 km/kg ARAI tested and a 60L water equivalent in twin-cylinder layout. Hyundai’s Hy-CNG Duo enhances practicality by optimizing boot space and integrating the CNG tanks discreetly, unlike traditional setups. This innovation not only boosts Exter’s appeal but also positions CNG fuel as a viable alternative to diesel, shedding its previous stigma.
