Huawei’s Kirin 820 5G 7nm Octa-Core SoC with Mali-G57 GPU launched

At the Honor 30S launch event, Huawei announced the Kirin 820 SoC which is the successor to last year’s Kirin 810. It is the same 7nm process featuring one ARM Cortex-A76 prime core clocked at 2.36GHz along with three ARM Cortex-A76 larger core clocked at 2.22GHz.

On the other hand, it uses four smaller ARM Cortex-A55 cores are clocked at 1.84GHz which handles all the daily usual tasks, overall, the SoC promises 27% CPU performance improvement compared to last-gen.

For the GPU, the SoC comes with the new ARM Mali-G57 MP6 which has a 38% gaming performance improvement over the previous generation and also supports Huawei’s Kirin Gaming+ 2.0 technology.

Huawei has also upgraded the NPU with 1.33 TFLOPS computing power offering 73% improvements over last-gen. The Kirin 820 uses the same Kirin ISP 5.0 as the Kirin 990, and also supports BM3D SLR image noise reduction and video dual-domain noise reduction along with support for 4K video capture at 60fps.

Obviously, the Kirin 820 is a 5G SoC that supports 5G dual-mode, five frequencies, multi-dimensional search, such as network search, uplink / down link speed, and dual SIM experience.

As per our previous leaks, the Kirin 820 is a truly powerful SoC and even though Huawei did never compare it with other chips, but there’s an AnTuTu benchmark leak. 

Huawei’s Kirin 820 delivers better CPU and GPU performance than the Snapdragon 765G and is on par with the previous generation: Kirin 980 and Snapdragon 855. Overall the SoC is a truly powerful one along with 5G support, especially being featured in mid-range devices from Honor and Huawei.
