Huawei has made a cut-down version of its Kirin 9000, namely the 9000L

When we talk about Huawei, the first thing that comes to mind is the fact as to how the company has suffered the most due to the trade war between the US and China.

The Chinese tech giant’s impositions have made it hard for the company to acquire most of the resources from its suppliers. The company will be launching its upcoming flagship, the P50 series, in limited batches, according to the latest information.

This is because the company has been blocked from engaging with TSMC to manufacture new copies of the Kirin 9000 processor.

But sources confirm that the OEM has designed a new and slightly lower-end variant of this SoC, the 9000E, for the base-model P50. The new version of the Kirin 9000 processor is called the Kirin 9000L.

According to the leaker WHYLAB, the new 9000 derivative has the same CPU core layout as the premium variant (1 “prime” ARM Cortex-A77 and has three additional Cortex-A77s clocked at 2.54GHz and 4 Cortex-A55s at 2.05GHz).

Reports also indicate that the “9000L’s” Mali-G78 GPU is slated to have only 18 cores, whereas the 9000 and putative 9000E have 24 and 22, respectively. It also has an NPU with only 1 major core, compared to 2 in the full-fat 9000.

The new 9000E is a cut-down version of the premium 9000, hence, this upcoming 9000E might be destined for future premium mid-rangers such as successors for the Nova 8 series. Let’s see how the OEM’s new smartphone performs in the market.
