The most current version of HP’s OMEN 17 gaming laptop line is HP’s first completely unrelated to Intel, as it has chosen AMD’s Hawk Point “Ryzen 8040” APUs. HP announced a brand-new OMEN 17 style, it’s widely known gaming laptop series that is based on another abovementioned AI trend, the one where PCs are increasingly being described as “AI PCs” along these lines’ development. And, primarily, the 8040 “Hawk Point” APU is, by a large margin, the first time Intel has not been featured in the OMEN series in numerous years.

The HP OMEN 17 is equipped with several SKUs from AMD’s 8040 series, such as Ryzen 5 8645HS, Ryzen 7 8845HS, and Ryzen 9 8945HS. The Hawk Point APUs offer a balanced price/performance ratio, especially since they have added dedicated Ryzen AI engines for strong edge AI processing. With AMD’s luck in AI processing, it makes sense for HP to choose it over Intel, even if on the CPU side the performance is quite close.

Besides, AMD’s Zen 4 architecture has delivered strong power efficiency and RDNA 3-based iGPUs that could be powerful while the discrete GPU is off the grid. The HP OMEN 17, on the other hand, will be available with a variety of NVIDIA “GeForce RTX 40” laptop GPUs, including the GeForce RTX 4050, RTX 4060, and RTX 4070. The laptop can be ordered with 16 GB or 32 GB of DDR5-5600MHz RAM, and it uses two M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs for storage.

Based on the data available when it launches, the laptop can be had with 512 GB or 1 TB of NVMe storage at launch, and that capacity can be increased after purchasing additional storage devices as required. The 17.3-inch display of the OMEN 17 is available in both QHD and FHD resolution versions.

Expected to launch by April 24th, the HP OMEN 17 starts at $1,350, positioning it competitively in the higher-end market segment. However, it remains to be seen how consumers will respond to the selection of AMD’s Ryzen 8040 series over Intel’s offerings.
