The dismissal of Rafa Benitez from Everton, and subsequent appointment of Frank Lampard has seemingly helped the club stay in the Premier League and avoid relegation.
They were in a very difficult position in January, and found themselves in 16th place with one win and three draws from their previous 14 matches. Owing to the dismal run of performances from the players, it seemed likely that they would be relegated to the Championship by the end of the season. But following their 3-2 win against Crystal Palace, they have confirmed their place in the Premier League next season.
How Everton managed to avoid relegation this season
One of the main achievements for Lampard in his short spell as the manager of the club is reconnecting with the fans. Due to Rafa Benitez managing Liverpool previously, the fans never liked the Spaniard. And Lampard has helped win over the Goodison faithful following his appointment.
Players like Alex Iwobi and Anthony Gordon have stepped up under the former Chelsea manager. Both have had an impressive run in the first team, and could have a much more involved role in the starting line-up if they can keep it up.
A positive winning mentality is something that was missing under Benitez, and Lampard has been able to cultivate that with the Toffees in a short span. While they have had a difficult time away from home, they have been able to perform well at Goodison Park. And that has played a key part in helping Everton survive the drop this year.
