Hijazi Maher has accepted East Bengal’s offer of a two-year extension on his current deal, staying on at the club until 2026. The defender from Jordan was signed in the midst of an injury crisis for East Bengal, and has proven himself to be a significant asset for the team.
His performance in the Kalinga Super Cup was particularly impressive, helping East Bengal win their first silverware in years and qualifying for the AFC Champions League 2. Now, he will be staying on, hopefully under the guidance of Carles Cuadrat, who has done an incredible job since taking charge of the club.

His physicality has proven to be a game changer at the back, something that East Bengal were lacking in previous seasons. Moreover, with a full preseason under his belt, he could be a much improved player by the time the new season comes around.
In addition to Hijazi Maher, East Bengal have also offered a new two-year deal to Saul Crespo, their midfield maestro. They are also in talks with renewing their captain, Cleiton Silva’s contract for one more season. The veteran, aged 38, remains the most prolific attacker for the team, and leads from the front.
With the foreign contingent almost finalised, the Red and Gold side must also work on building their native core so that they can depend more on a holistic team effort than a select few players.
